Change or Reset Your Password

Use this section to change or reset a Spleen password, set up two-step verification, and understand sessions and trusted browsers. Password and two-step verification controls are available to accounts that sign in with a Spleen password. Provider-only accounts use their external provider for sign-in security and recovery, and can add a Spleen password through the password reset link.

These controls apply to accounts that sign in with an email address and Spleen password. A new password must contain at least eight characters.

Change a password you know

Open Account → Password & 2FA. Enter your current password and the new password, then choose Change password.

Sign out of other sessions is selected by default. Leave it selected to end Spleen sessions in other browsers and on other devices while keeping the current session open. Clear it only when you deliberately want those other sessions to remain signed in.

Reset a forgotten password

On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password?, enter your email address, complete the human check, and choose Send reset link. Spleen gives the same response whether an account exists or not, so an account cannot be discovered from this form.

Open the link in the email and enter a new password. If the link is invalid or has expired, return to the forgot-password page and request another one. After a successful reset, sign in with the new password. If you had not confirmed your email address yet, the reset confirms it, since the link could only have reached your inbox.

If you sign in only through Google or GitHub, no Spleen password is set yet, but you can add one the same way: request a reset link for the email address on your account and choose a password. After that you can sign in with either the provider or the password, and Account → Password & 2FA shows the password controls. If you lose access to the Google or GitHub account itself, use that provider’s account recovery process.
