Create Your First Project
A project is the home for one longer work in Spleen. Start with a blank project when you want to shape it yourself, or choose a template when a ready-made structure would help.
Create the project
On the projects overview, choose New project. Add a title and optionally enter an Author / pen name, choose a Type and Template, and decide whether to Create research. Choose Create project when the starting shape is ready.
With the blank template and no research structure, the new project contains no sections or documents yet. This is a useful choice when you want the structure to grow with the work.
Choose a starting structure
Use the Template menu when you want Spleen to create a useful set of sections and documents for you. Basic templates are available to everyone. Genre templates are available on Folio and Library plans. Templates you have saved appear under Your templates when your plan supports them.
Enable Create research to add Ideas, People, Landscape, and References beside the writing area. Anything created from a template can still be renamed, moved, replaced, or deleted later.
Start writing
Open the project, then use Structure in the writing sidebar to create a section or document. Select a document and begin writing. Spleen saves the document automatically while you work.
When you are comfortable with that first path, continue with A Tour of the Workspace to learn what surrounds the editor.
