Editor Settings

Editor settings control parts of Spleen that directly affect the writing experience. They help you tune the editor so it feels comfortable during drafting, revision, and longer reading sessions.

Editor font

Spleen lets you choose the font used for writing:

• Literata is the default serif writing font.
• Atkinson Hyperlegible is designed for high readability.
• Inter is a clean, modern font without serifs.

Focus controls

Focus controls help reduce visual noise around the current line or paragraph. Use them if they make the document easier to follow. Leave them off if you prefer an even plainer writing surface.

Highlight current paragraph

Highlighting the current paragraph can make longer documents easier to navigate while editing. The highlight should be subtle enough that it supports focus without turning into decoration.

Writing aids

Check spelling lets the browser mark words it thinks are misspelled while you write. It starts turned off. Turn it on under Writing aids when you want those suggestions.

The spellchecker uses your browser’s dictionary, which may not match the language you write in. Names, invented words, dialect, and specialist terms may therefore be marked even when they are intentional. Existing text may not gain or lose underlines until you edit it again.

This preference is stored in the current browser. It does not change the document or appear in exports.

Settings that affect the writing experience

Editor settings should be treated as comfort controls. They do not change the project’s content and do not affect how the project is exported.

The current Editor settings section contains Editor font family, Focus & distraction controls, and Writing aids.

The Indent paragraphs switch is not a general editor preference. It belongs to the individual project and is available from that project’s overview. Unlike the comfort controls here, paragraph indentation is also used in PDF, EPUB, and HTML exports.
